The Lion and the Clever Rabbit (Panchatantra Story)
Once upon a time, in a forest, a fierce lion ruled over all the animals. Every day, he hunted many animals, and the forest creatures were terrified.
To save themselves, the animals made a plan. They requested the lion,
“Please do not hunt us daily. We will send one animal to you every day as your meal.”
The lion agreed.
One day, it was a small rabbit’s turn. The rabbit walked slowly toward the lion’s cave. The lion became very angry.
“Why are you so late?” roared the lion.
The clever rabbit replied,
“Lord, I was coming to you, but another lion stopped me. He said he is the real king of this forest!”
The lion was furious.
“Take me to that lion immediately!”
The rabbit led him to a deep well and said,
“He lives inside this well.”
The lion looked inside and saw his own reflection in the water. Thinking it was the rival lion, he roared loudly. The reflection roared back.
In anger, the lion jumped into the well to attack — and drowned.
All the animals in the forest were saved.
